"L.A. Woman," the sixth studio album by the Doors, hit the shelves on April 19, 1971, courtesy of Elektra Records. Regrettably, it stands as the final album featuring lead singer Jim Morrison during his lifetime, as he passed away exactly two months and two weeks following its release. However, Morrison would posthumously grace the 1978 album "An American Prayer."
Drenched in blues influences more than any of its predecessors, the album was notably recorded sans producer Paul A. Rothchild, who parted ways with the band due to perceived deficiencies in their studio performances. Consequently, the band took on co-production duties alongside longtime sound engineer Bruce Botnick.
The single "Love Her Madly," released in March 1971 ahead of the album, soared into the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. "L.A. Woman" itself reached a respectable number nine on the Billboard 200 and landed at number 28 on the UK Albums Charts. Notably, the haunting track "Riders on the Storm" also achieved considerable chart success.
