"Chelsea Girl" is the debut solo album and second studio venture of German singer Nico. Released in October 1967 by Verve Records, it followed Nico's collaboration with the Velvet Underground on their inaugural studio album earlier that same year. Produced by Tom Wilson, the album incorporated string and flute arrangements, despite Nico's initial objections. The title pays homage to Andy Warhol's 1966 film Chelsea Girls, in which Nico had a starring role.
Throughout much of the album, instrumental work and songwriting credits are attributed to Velvet Underground members Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, and John Cale. Additionally, "I'll Keep It with Mine" was penned by Bob Dylan, while Jackson Browne, who also contributes guitar, is credited with three songs.
